Poledne Franz was born on April 10, 1873, in Vienna. He was an Austrian painter and illustrator. As a painter, he produced oils and watercolors and is best known for his views of Vienna.
While being still a teenager, he started to work from 1888 until 1893 in the studios of decorator Hermann Burghart.
During that time, he attended the drawing school at the Higher Federal Graphical Training and Research Institute and became an illustrator for magazines. From 1907 until his death, he worked for the Illustrierte Kronen Zeitung.
In the early 20th century Poledne was one of a group of Austrian painters who created the intimate, nostalgic images of “Old Vienna”, Rudolf von Alt (1812 – 1905), Emil Hütter (1835 – 1886), Franz Kopallik (1860 – 1931), Richard Moser (1874 – 1924) and Erwin Pendl (1875 – 1945).
He died following a serious illness on January 7, 1932, in Klosterneuburg, Austria. Today, his works can be found in private and public collections, including at the Wien Museum.
